Installing the Nexus software

The Nexus software package is distributed as rpm, deb, dmg or a Windows installer.  Select the packaging appropriate for your platform.

Nexus-1.0.0a-1.x86_64.rpm

Nexus-1.0.0a_amd64.deb

Nexus-1.0.0a.dmg

Nexus-1.0.0a.exe

The system supports all of the same platforms as EnSight.  The core packages include everything necessary to set up a local or remote Nexus server as well as a tool for editing report templates.

If you want to use EnSight to populate your Nexus database, you need to install EnSight as well into the same directory as Nexus.

Note: the 'Apex' component is shared between the Nexus and EnSight installations.  You may need to specify flags like --force to tools like rpm (--force-all for .deb) to allow the two installers to provide some common files.

Once the core software has been installed, it will become available for use directly from EnSight or the Nexus template editor. Details on starting a local server using those tools can been seen here.  If your license provides for a permanent server that can be access from other machines (the "remote server" configuration), one can view the specific instructions on installing such a server here.

Non-default install locations

It is not uncommon to want to install the Nexus software into specific locations, perhaps to retain multiple versions of the software or run them as different users.

Under Windows, Nexus can be installed from the command line with the /S (silent) and /D (directory) flags:

Nexus-1.0.0a.exe /S /D=C:\Users\rjfrank\nexus_1_0_a

Under a Debian-based Linux:

sudo dpkg -i --prefix=/home/rjfrank/nexus_1_0_a Nexus-1.0.0a_amd64.deb

Under a RedHat-based Linux:

sudo rpm -i --prefix=/home/rjfrank/nexus_1_0_a Nexus-1.0.0a-1.x86_64.rpm

Example Nexus Database

A database that contains all of the data and reports used when generating this documentation is included in the distribution.  The database and associated media directory are included in the file:  {CEI_HOME}\nexus193\examples\documentation_database\documentation_examples.zip. To use the database, extract the contents of the .zip file into an empty directory and use the nexus_template_editor to launch a new Nexus server using the extracted bd.sqlite3 file as the source.
